帰省の予定はまだ未定

遅くとも七月中には帰省するものと信じている郷里の母から、一日おきに電話が入ります。

期待させておいてすみませんが、そんな予定は全くありません。ごめんなさい。
っていうか温泉施設とうまい肉を盾に誘惑するのをやめて下さい……。
祖母の家の近くに、東京でもお目にかかれないべらぼうにうまい肉屋があるのを知っているので、さすがに心が揺れてしまいます。この上さらに、もはや伝説と化している鳴門のうなぎ屋の名前など出されようものなら万難を排して帰らざるを得ないので、母が私のうなぎ好きを思い出さないよう切に祈っています。

思えば前に実家に帰ったのは去年の１２月でした。新幹線に三時間、高速バスに二時間という行程の中、何度か閉塞感に襲われてふらふらしたりしていました。結局何とか行って帰って来れたのですが、向こうでも田舎の常で移動は車がほとんど、さらに土手沿いや長い橋など危険地帯が盛りだくさんで、しょっちゅうお薬の助けを借りなければなりませんでした。今も状況はましになったとはいえ、まだまだ予断を許さないので念には念を入れてここは延期です。それしかありません。

それならとりあえず一言「今月帰れない」と告げれば事は済むのですが、何となくそれができずに電話の度に「ああ、うん、まだ日にち決まらないんだけど」とお茶を濁してしまうのはどうしてか。
自分の心の弱さがちょっと癪に思えます、最近。
