復活と敗北と
ずっと普通のペンばかり使っていたのだが、今日は久しぶりにシャーペンを使ってみた。高校生の頃からペンケースに入っていたやつがたまたま出てきたことによる。ピンク色のマーブル模様で、持ち手の部分に段々が付いている。このシャーペンは徳島駅の裏のZESTという雑貨屋で買い求めたものだ。すっかり気に入って色違いで数本買い足したはずだが、他のものはどこかへ行ってしまって、今ではこの一本だけが手元に残っている。受験時代に何時間も使っていたものだからやはりというかそれなりに手には馴染んでいて、違和感なく使うことができた。しかも消しゴムで消せる！ これはいい。何を書いても取り返しが付くというのは精神衛生上悪くない。よって、新たにシャーペン派に返り咲こうと決意した。
とはいえ一本しか持っていないのにシャーペン派を名乗るのも片腹痛い。せめてもう一本くらいあった方がよいだろうと文具店を訪れてみる。そこでは驚きの光景が待っていた。最近のシャーペンは、カチカチしなくても振るだけで芯が出たりする。また、人間工学の研究から、肩や手に負担を掛けにくい形と重さになっていたりもする。おまけに、シャーペンの癖に一本５００円の値段が付いている。これは暴利なのかそれとも相場なのか、業界を離れて久しい身としては判断が付きかねた。もちろん普通の、百円二百円で買えるものもあったと思うが、何となく緊張したのか混乱に襲われて、その一本500円をまっすぐレジに持っていってしまった。春限定の新色と書かれていたせいもあると思う。限定という単語は、時として人を惑わせるものだ。
本、洋服、化粧品、その他数千円、数万円で買い物をすることがないわけではない。パソコンの買い換えなんて十万以上かかる。しかし、そのどれよりも、５００円のシャーペンというのは高価なものの様な気がする。そんな買い物を済ませ、「５００円のシャーペンを持っている自分」に少々酔いながら家路に付く。そこへスタジオ代表のお言葉である。
「あ、ねこぞうのシャーペンもドクターグリップ（その名前は何だ！？ ドクターペッパーの間違いじゃないのか！？）なんだ。俺もずっとそのシリーズ使っているよ」
その昔、クレジットカードを作ることもできなかった人間が一本500円のシャーペンを使っている。
これは負けか？
